Gratitude Goes a Long Way

Have you ever just stopped and take a look at your life?

People are so quick to look at their lives when they are feeling down and can point out a million negatives but only see one positive. But even when you see this positive there is a negative looking right back at you. “Oh I am not doing all I would like to do as a parent. I lost my job and now I have nothing that I can do to take care of my kids.” The words flood your mind like  It always feels as though you are defeated before you can even begin anything. Where do you start? How can you release your mind of all the negative thoughts when they are overflowing in your mind?

BREATHE!!!!

Take your time and just close your eyes for 5 minutes and focus on your breathing. When you focus on your breathing it allows you to release any thoughts out of your mind and change your focus.  Once you have done your breathing and open your eyes you need to grab a sheet of paper.  Take 15 minutes and just write down everything you are grateful for that comes to your mind. Think of many different things such as the small things and the big things that have happened in your life. We tend to forget the fact that we have the ability to breathe, we have the ability to look, touch, smell, hear, speak, and write. All of these things can be something to be grateful for because there are some people who do not have the ability to do all of those. Be grateful for that person at McDonald’s that gave you an extra big handful of ketchup. Being able to see my kids and hug and kiss them everyday is the biggest motivation that I have.

Make things better!

Everyday what I do to remind myself that gratitude goes a long way. Most of the time it is the best to take time and reflect on all the positive in your life. Reflect on your goals that you have accomplished. Read a chapter in a positive uplifting book (e.g. Choose Yourself!) and just get lost in the words of the book. It’s important to be grateful so that you can receive the many blessings that are meant for you and your life.
